Maritime Logistics Community News : December 2008
20 NAVY SUPPLY NEWSLETTER SPRING 2008 Writer Training What a year it has been for Writer training and more importantly, the Writer category. Earlier in the year saw the approval of the new Writer training continuum which will now see the introduction of two new residential courses along with other changes to existing courses. In addition, new training systems will be introduced to the school along with the creation of an additional instructional position to cater for the increased workload. The new continuum will see the cessation of the LSWTR Professional Development Program with the re-introduction the Advanced Writer course. In addition, Work Experience Journal Part 2 will be replaced with the Intermediate Writer course and Competency Task Journal which will be a first for the category. Whilst the first hurdle of getting these new courses approved has been achieved, there are many more hurdles to get over. There is still a tremendous amount of development work to be completed before the first courses can actually be held in early 2009. Whilst instructional staff will be busy undertaking development work on the two new courses, there is also a considerable amount of work to be completed on updating the initial Writers course and introducing a new Competency Task Journal to replace the current Work Experience Journal Part 1. This will include the re-introduction of ADFPAY operator training and typing back into the continuum along with several other new modules. It is envisaged that these new modules will be ready for the first course commencing on 2 March 2009. Staff have also been extremely busy with developing and delivering the new Writer specific modules for the SOAC and DSO Desig courses. To assist with the increased workload, ADNPR(SU) approved the creation of a new POWTR5 position within the school. To assist in the development work, CPOWTR Stu Bone has been posted to the position until January 2009 when POWTR Liz Saunders takes up the position full time. January will also see POWTR Andy Maskell take over the Senior Instructor’s position. IWTR 253 – 31 March–6 June 2008 BACK ROW L-R: SMN C. WEBER, SMN C. SMITH, SMN A. NAITINI, SMN B. GILKES, SMN G.
