Maritime Logistics Community News : Autumn 2009
NAVY SUPPLY NEWSLETTER AUTUMN 2009 11 FROM THE STEWARDS CATEGORY SPONSOR By WOSTD Rebekah Day Finally it is time to write!! Firstly, I would like to pass on my considerable thanks on behalf of the Category to Warrant Officer Phil Crisp for his dedication as the previous Stewards Category Sponsor, and also to WOCK Craig Nickels for minding the chair in anticipation of my arrival! Thank you both. I trust Phil Crisp is enjoying his new career in Victoria. Having been recently promoted to the rank of Warrant Officer I come to the position with much expectation of the future and of course the question: Where do we head now? With a lot of focus on the future with New Generation Navy and how the Navy is working towards and beyond 2014. We as a Category must find the right fit and balance to ensure the future is bright in order to guarantee that we have a sustainable category and have the capacity to add capability. I believe it is an exciting time to be part of the Supply Department. FROM THE STORES NAVAL CATEGORY SPONSOR By WOSN Grant Leepere CPL CMILT Well it’s time for another Navy Supply Newsletter article. This could be my last but you just never know; they might squeeze another one out of me before I move on. Congratulations to WOSN Olson who has accepted promotion and is posted to JLU-W. A couple of big ticket items have happened since the last article. The major one for you is the Graded Other Ranks Pay Structure (GORPS). The onus is on you to ensure you are at the right Skill Grade so you can be paid the correct amount. With the new training continuum Skill Grades are awarded as follows: Group 2 2 at Pay Group 3 3 at Pay Group 3 Grade 4 at Pay Group 3 If you are unsure of what Skill Grade you should be please contact me. Rank CPOSN CPOSN POSN POSN LSSN ABSN SMN SMN Skill Grade Increment Pay Increase 5 5 5 4 4 4 5 5 5 4 4 4 3-4 3-4 3-4 2-3 2 1 0 1 2 0 1 2 0 1 2 0 1 2 0 1 2 $2,222 $1,035 $1,658 $1,698 $511 $1,084 $3,129 $3,130 $3,665 $2,556 $2,556 $3,091 $1,327 $1,307 $1,756 $538 $566 NIL AUCKLAND HEAD OFFICE 35 Lady Ruby Drive, East Tamaki PO Box 58623, Manuaku 2141 Free Ph: 0800 733 735 Free Fax: 0800 733 736 Web: www.electropar.co.nz AUSTRALIA OFFICE Unit 2, No.47 Assembly Drive, Tullamarine Victoria 3043, Australia Free Ph: 1 800 141 502 Free Fax: 1 800 141 503 Web: www.electropar.com.au So what has GORPS delivered to you? Depending on what Rank, Increment and Skill Grade you are will determine how much you will receive in your pay packet. Please note that the figures above are approximate and are per annum. You may have heard a few rumors about Stores Naval sailors returning to the Submarine Squadron. At the time of writing this article I can confirm that HMAS FARNCOMB has been allocated an SN in its scheme of complement as part of the crew enhancement program. It is early days and many things need to be sorted out before we can fully implement a Stores Naval Submariner career path. If you are contemplating the idea of becoming a Submariner please drop me a line and I can keep you up to date on the how it is progressing. As we all know, ABR 4 is far from “ticketyboo” which is not surprising considering the last re-write was conducted back in 2003. We have started the review of our bible, this will be a long process and hopefully it will be completed by the time JP2077 is introduced. If you see any glaring errors in ABR 4 please contact me so I can add it to the long list of amendments. The newly approved Intermediate and Advanced courses were kicked off last year and by all accounts they have been very well received by all participants. Can I remind everyone that the Supply and Health Faculty does not panel the course members, DSCM does. So any questions regarding paneling should be directed to your local Career Advisor. Lastly I would like to congratulate all those who have been promoted recently. The SN branch is one of the most competitive in the Navy and to reach the next rank is something you should be very proud of. Well Done.
