16 naVY SuPPLY nEWSLEttER autumn 2009 The TLI07 package has seen the removal of an Advanced Diploma, with most of these high level competencies now being included in the diploma. To achieve this bolstered diploma now requires 14 competencies, on top of the Cert IV. We only achieve 5 on completion of the Advanced CTJ, so unfortunately the diploma cannot be achieved through the training continuum. A statement of attainment will be awarded after the Advanced CTJ, and work is being done with the Category Sponsor to investigate the possibility of Navy funding TAFE courses to complete the other 9 competencies for Diploma level. Watch this space! A flowchart of the training continuum is below with all associated skill and pay grades and promotion pre-requisites noted. The transition to this continuum will be complete by 01 Jun 09 so you should all fit in here somewhere. The year has started out to be tremendously busy for Writer Training with course development being the order of the day. March 2009 saw the commencement of the redeveloped initial Writers course while April will see the commencement of the first intermediate course. In May 2009 the first advanced course will be held. Once the pilots of the intermediate and advanced courses have been completed, the school will be busy completing further courses throughout 2009/2010 to meet the transition from the previous continuums. On 31 May 2009, the LSWTR PDP will no longer be undertaken with the advanced course replacing it. The program commenced back in 1999 and was introduced at the time when the Writer Category was reducing in size and Navy was embracing alternative training systems such as Distance Learning and Online Campus. The new continuum was approved mid last year, and further refinements were made at the end of 2008. These include having only one Competency Task Journal (CTJ) for SMNWTR, promotion to Able Seaman not link to the completion of the CTJ, and removing the CTJ originally approved for the advanced course. The promotion prerequisite for POWTR to CPOWTR will remain the Senior Sailors Management Course, or its equivalent. The table below details the new continuum, accreditation and Pay Groups in accordance with the recent GORPs introduction.
