Maritime Logistics Community News : Autumn 2010
19 NAVY SUPPLY NEWSLETTER AUTUMN 2010 involved. Planning and administration is the bread and butter of Supply, so it is linked in strongly. "I also have a greater understanding of the linkages across the Navy and Defence -- in my project, it's seldom there's no linkages between DFR, career management or personnel policy." When asked how his upcoming posting on HMAS Ballarat will differ from his role in NGN, he laughs. "Less paperwork I hope!" However, LCDR Cook did admit that the importance of team communication and ownership of outcomes was the major lesson from his NGN experience that can be applied onboard ship. "Having an agenda for a meeting and a desired outcome, which is then agreed, helps in shaping what is delivered out of any given situation," said LCDR Cook. "Ensuring that everyone knows the outcome and position, and what is required of them -- you can't always take for granted that people will accept and be on board. The combination of communication and process is key." THE FUTURE OF NGN The combination of affiliative leadership skills, knowledge of conditions or service and a skill for combining process with effective communication are at the heart of the Supply Branch, and these elements all converge to create a perfect pairing with project management in programs like NGN. The NGN Program will be seeking expressions of interest from Navy personnel of all specialisations in the coming weeks. If you are interested in applying to be part of the NGN team, please email an expression of interest and your CV to email@example.com. For further information of the NGN program, and the status of all projects, please consult the NGN site on the Navy intranet. T Ask us how! Salary packaging makes sense.
