Maritime Logistics Community News : Autumn 2010
37 NAVY SUPPLY NEWSLETTER AUTUMN 2010 to develop TGLC and perhaps make the transition a little easier in the future. For the numbers, these were the final figures for Urgent Material Screening Material Screen Requests (MSR): • Priority 1 MSR: 22 (all Pty One URDEF related) • Satisfied: 11 (3 boat, 3 Log Helo, 5 alongside FBE) • Priority 2 MSR: 32 • Satisfied: 11 (11 boat) We learnt some valuable lessons for MATCONOFF, and these were: • Simultaneous email backup of Mercury to ensure timely flow of information. • Avoid screening for non-essential items (Sequence of Events/ Movements cost vs operational benefit). • Programming task unit consolidation in Jervis Bay mid-FCP was useful given RHIB sea state restrictions. • In addition to MSR stores, Log Helo also was well utilised for delivery of other urgent stores delivered to FLSE-A for onward delivery to units, as well as pax transfers (STG, CASEVAC, VIP, Media). • There would be benefits gained from embedding 1 x LSSN in FLSE-A to provide dedicated liaison between FLSE-A, 817 Sqn, FLSE-FBE, DNSDC and MATCONOFF. Having said all that I guess you can imagine we were pretty busy, but what I did realise is how important the ships working together was and is. At the de-brief I learnt that over FCP that 11 priority one URDEFs were prevented by ships in company, the same for priority two URDEFS. The warfare support that was offered by all of the SS on the ships can be pretty powerful after all! It's good to be in the RAN even better to be in Supply!
