Maritime Logistics Community News : Autumn 2010
43 NAVY SUPPLY NEWSLETTER AUTUMN 2010 RECENTLY MUSTERED PUK 32 (SQUIRREL) AT FLSE-A AVAILABLE FOR DEPLOYMENT HMAS ANZAC PUK 1 (SEAHAWK) AVIATION DEPLOYABLE WAREHOUSE RETURNING TO FLSE-A ALBATROSS. The new MRH 90 hangars are currently being built to house the RANs allocation of helicopters. There are other major building works such as a new Canteen, Junior Sailors Mess, and conference facilities planned to be built in the next few years. Old hangars will be demolished to make way for other new facilities. ALBATROSS and the Nowra/Shoalhaven area provides a more relaxed lifestyle, beaches, camping, and is out of the hustle and bustle of Sydney, yet which is still close enough to visit on a weekend. The majority of personnel that live in the Nowra area enjoy a leisurely 15 min drive to work and easy parking. What have I enjoyed about my posting to ALBATROSS? The chance to spend more time with family, and get out and see the south coast. There is so much to see and do in the Shoalhaven area and is a great place to be posted. 2009 Fleet Proficiency Awards The Fleet Commander announced Fleet Proficiency Awards for 2009 on 4 December 2009. BY CMDR ANTHONY DAVIDSON, RAN Along with the Gloucester Cup the Fleet Commander awards 25 perpetual trophies to ships, establishments and individuals that have demonstrated excellence in a specified field. Supply is recognised by three awards. The foremost of these is the Supply Excellence Award which recognises the highest overall standard of supply services at sea. Coming from a very strong foundation in 2008, HMAS MANOORA backed up to win the award again in 2009. Not far behind MANOORA as the runner up for this award was HMAS SIRIUS. The small Supply Team made a significant contribution to an overall excellent result for SIRIUS, with the ship an equal runner up for the Gloucester Cup. HMAS TOOWOOMBA impressed many with the service provided by their Catering Team, Cooks and Stewards, to win the Silver Platter Award for a ship with a Catering Team of four or more. HMAS SIRIUS once again featured in the final analysis, coming in just behind TOOWOOMBA in this important award. The final award, the Silver Platter for Catering Teams of three or less, was won by the Assail 2 Team led by LSCK Mathews with the Attack 1 Team led by LSCK Jenkins the runners up. Well done to the winning teams, excellent standards were achieved and a good benchmark has been set for others to strive for.
