Maritime Logistics Community News : Autumn 2010
45 NAVY SUPPLY NEWSLETTER AUTUMN 2010 Navy’s service supplement will be known as the Navy Supply Chain Supplement (NSCS) and in due course will replace the existing ABR4/ NAVSUPMAN2. It will be available online and on disk. The single service supplements will be incorporated into the same styles as the ESCM and integrated with the search engine. Every volume of each supplement will match related content in the ESCM (ie vol 1 of the NSCS will match vol 1 of the ESCM). This will enable the new supplements to be hyperlinked to the other supplements and related content in the ESCM. This hyperlink will be known as the “page-to-page” function. The ESCM search engine will be expanded to include selective search capability ie search ALL documents OR just the ESCM and NSCS OR the NSCS by itself. Additionally, a new capability is being developed which will enable a user to identify and quickly navigate between related content in each supplement and the ESCM. This means that a logistics worker who is in (say) disposals, will be able to find disposals information in the same reference in each manual eg: ESCM V04S07C01, NSCS V04S07C01, ASCS V04S07C01, RSCS V04S07C01 The supplements remain the responsibility of the individual Services and DNLOGRS will be responsible for the NSCS. Users will also be able to easily request updates/report discrepancies by simply clicking on the feedback links on each page. Point of contact in DNLOGRS is SO Systems, LCDR Sam Woods.
