Maritime Logistics Community News : Summer 2010
28 NAVY SUPPLY NEWSLETTER SUMMER 2010 CDRE Richards the Director General of Maritime Support stated that he looked forward to a long and rewarding relationship with Blackwoods. He further stated that this e-business initiative led by NAVY was now being considered more broadly in Defence as an SRP initiative. Mr Hayden DeLacy responded on behalf of Blackwoods thanking those whom had supported the initiative specifically mentioning ships staff that had conducted the trials. This Standing Offer is for the provision of Commercial off the Shelf products with a web based e-procurement ordering system. With over 7,000 items available for supply, these items are high turnover; non equipment related items of cleaning equipment and consumables, general and electronic hardware as well as welding accessories. A trial of the e-business method, on an east and west coast based ship, indicated that customer satisfaction also increased. This is a major improvement to the supply chain and it will enhance the delivery of these basic but crucial items of supply to the RAN. It is anticipated the e-procurement system will be available for the majority of major Fleet units by December 2010 and then to all other units and Establishments in early 2011. All of the items for procurement through J Blackwoods and Sons are identifiable by a NATO Stock Numbers, comprehensive and descriptive details as well as an image of the item. This agreement is designed to improve the Supply Chain for everyday items, it will allow Navy to analyse consumption and other waste minimisation schemes to be implemented and overall contribute to the SRP savings that are required by Navy. J Blackwoods and Sons Pty Ltd is a part of Westfarmers group, it is a national business to business distribution services which supplies industrial and safety products in Australia and New Zealand, they employ over 1,800 personnel over 80 locations to seven distribution centres.
