Maritime Logistics Community News : April 2014
12 MARITIME LOGISTICS COMMUNITY NEWSLETTER 2014 Maritime Logistics -- Chef Update The Maritime Logistics -- Chef (ML-C) Category remains healthy and Defence Force Recruiting have been achieving our targets. At present we have a total of 421 Chefs to fill 379 positions making our Category 38 personnel over demand. We currently have 13% of our workforce MEC 3 or higher which is over our allowable 4.3% across the Category. This high percentage of non-deployable personnel comes mainly from the Able Seaman and Leading Seaman ranks. Congratulations to Holmesglen TAFE who won the contract to deliver Hospitality and Catering training to Defence. Holmesglen are renowned for providing innovative training and their diverse Industry contacts will be beneficial in delivery a broader training approach. Each trainee is issued an iPad as part of the ADF Initial Cook Course and it is retained as a resource tool post graduation. Trainees, on completion of the Initial Cooks course are posting to HMAS Cerberus, HMAS Kuttabul, HMAS Watson and HMAS Stirling. This change consolidates training, CTJ progression and provides immediate access to these sailors for the purpose of filling Sea Training Bunks (STB). Endorsed changes to Ration Management Accounting (RMA) have been implemented across the fleet. This endorsement, plus the transition from SIT07 to the SIT12 training package has led to a review in ADFSC training and the ML-C CTJ. It is expected the training will be updated for future ADF Intermediate Cook, RAN Intermediate Single Service courses and Competency Evidence Journals (CEJ). A decision is still pending regarding the Hospitality and Catering review and I will provide you with information as things progress. During my visits around the country earlier in the year, I was very impressed with the dedication and professionalism of Chefs and the interest and ideas they have to ensure that our Category is constantly improving the way we do business. Thanks for your support, and well done to everyone who assisted with the International Fleet Review celebrations and functions. Please keep up this great work in the coming year.
