38 MARITIME LOGISTICS COMMUNITY NEWSLETTER 2014 Obituary LCDR Mick Blagg LCDR Michael Blagg joined the Navy from Perth at 17 in April 1987 and commenced his career at HMAS Cerberus in Victoria, as a Stores Naval sailor. He was appointed an Officer in the Royal Australian Navy on 05 January, 2003 and commenced his studies towards a Bachelor of Science degree, which he completed in December 2005. On completion of his tertiary studies, LCDR Blagg commenced his Supply Officer training. LCDR Blagg served in HMAS Warramunga as the Deputy Supply Officer. On completion of his tenure, Mick deployed to the United Nations Headquarters in Khartoum as the Deputy Chief of Logistics Operations for the United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) where he assisted with the logistic support for the 10,000 troops of member nations from around the world. Mick wrote that he 'found the Sudanese people inspiring, having tremendous strength and courage'. LCDR Blagg was awarded the Australian Service Medal (Sudan clasp) and the United Nations Medal Sudan. He was also awarded a Silver, Australian Defence Force Commendation for Outstanding Service for his efforts whilst deployed to the Sudan. On 26 November 2012, LCDR Michael Blagg, RAN, joined HMAS Warramunga as the Supply Officer. LCDR Blagg passed away on 10 January, 2013. Extracts from the Eulogy delivered by CMDR A.
